Revolut reports that women secured 4% higher investment returns than men last year. Yet nearly half of Brits still believe women are less financially savvy. The contrast is stark. The myth persists. The data challenges it.
New survey findings reveal how old perceptions remain rooted in UK society. The poll shows that 44% of adults think women are still viewed as less competent with money. Another 60% say the short 50-year window since women gained full financial independence continues to shape their confidence today. The gap is cultural rather than based on actual results.
Revolut’s figures paint a different picture. Women using the platform beat men’s investment returns across several age groups. Women aged 45 to 54 led the performance tables, earning 1.2% more than men of the same age. Millennial women followed closely. Even younger women, while posting slightly lower returns than young men, significantly increase account openings and activity. The rise signals stronger engagement and confidence.
Revolut says women opened 31% more investment accounts in 2024. Men increased by 20%. Among older women, account openings jumped 44%. Gen Z women also surged ahead, reporting a 32% increase compared with just 10% for young men. Revolut attributes part of this momentum to better access to digital resources and more deliberate long-term strategies.
The company is pushing to close remaining gaps. Revolut will fund lifetime financial education for 500 women and provide 50 planners to support women in disadvantaged communities. The initiative forms part of a wider collaboration with Female Invest. Together, they are launching the “A Seat at the Table” campaign. A street installation in London made up of 50 chairs will symbolise five decades of progress since the Sex Discrimination Act.
Revolut executives insist the narrative must change. They argue that when women gain access and support, they invest with confidence and strong results. Their message is clear. Outdated assumptions no longer match reality. Women are claiming space in the investment world and outperforming.
