Revolut Introduces Street Mode, a new location-aware safety feature designed to protect users when they’re out and about. The tool responds to a sharp rise in phone thefts and growing concerns about “transfer mugging.” It adds friction at the exact moments criminals try to strike. The feature uses delays, extra biometric checks, and trusted locations to keep accounts safe when users are away from secure areas.
Street Mode works by placing a pause on outgoing transfers that go above a user-selected limit. When someone attempts a high-value transfer outside trusted locations, the app activates a one-hour delay. After that hour, the user must complete a second selfie verification. This window acts as a critical safety buffer. It gives victims and Revolut’s fraud team enough time to freeze the account before money leaves.
Users can choose trusted locations such as home or the workplace. Inside these zones, transfers only require one selfie check and move normally. Outside these areas, the safeguards increase. This shift makes Street Mode a dynamic shield. It adapts to the environment instead of applying static rules.
The feature builds on Revolut’s existing Wealth Protection tools, which already serve over a million customers. It adds real-world context to digital banking security. As fraudsters become more aggressive and force victims to unlock accounts, Revolut Introduces Street Mode as a direct response to modern risks.
The rollout comes ahead of the festive season, a time when theft and phone snatching typically rise. Crowded markets, busy shopping streets, and late-night travel create ideal opportunities for criminals. Street Mode aims to counter those threats with simple but effective controls.
Revolut encourages users to combine Street Mode with other safety options. These include instant card freezing, virtual cards for secure online shopping, and real-time spending alerts. Together, these tools offer a stronger defence against evolving scams.
Street Mode signals a shift in how fintech firms approach fraud. It moves from passive protection to adaptive security. By reacting to location and behaviour, the feature gives users more control when it matters most.
